Algae Toxin Monitoring

Algae_toxinPurpose: To assess if there are potentially harmful levels of Algal Toxins at key recreation locations in the Colorado-Big Thompson West Slope collection system.

Sites & Scope: Starting in 2008, nine sites are monitored at sites including Granby Reservoir, Shadow Mountain Reservoir, Grand Lake, Willow Creek Reservoir and Windy Gap Reservoir.

Sampling Type & Frequency: From 2008 through 2010, grab sampling occurred on a weekly basis from June to September.

Sampling Entity(ies): GCWIN performs all sampling.

Sampling Protocol: In 2008 - 2010 the analytical method used was Protein Phosphatase Inhibition Assay (PPIA). An additional analytical method is under consideration for 2011.

Funding Partners: U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District, Colorado River Water Conservation District, Three Lakes Watershed Association, Town of Grand Lake, Greater Grand Lake Shoreline Association

Data: In 2010, no levels above the method detection limit were seen. We are currently, working on making this data available on the WILbur database.
